Barry M Lipgloss Wands

barry-m-glossWith it’s shades of Bubble Gum Pink and Tropical Orange,  soft gentle Sugar Pink Glitter,  plus everything in between, Barry M’s brand new lipgloss wands are ideal to hang onto the Summer a little while longer.

Very soft on the lips, almost the texture of a lipstick, and absolutely no stickiness, these glosses give the colour you want.  Just a hint, or add another layer for an extra bit of pop.

The smell is very true, the hot 80s pink smells just like bubblegum of the 80s, which is rather nice, however, if you’re not a scented-lipgloss fan, these really won’t be for you because the smell is very apparent.  Its not a synthetic smell by any means, but you are aware it’s there.

Functional packaging with the simple black-on-clear packaging, these colours are definitely eye catching and will certainly get you noticed!

When I was asked to review a lip gloss in Tropical Orange I didn’t appreciate that the “orange” colour would be so vivid and the “tropical” smell would be so strong. Still, I wasn’t put off that easily, although I could see why some people could be. The smell didn’t last long; in fact once it was on I didn’t notice it and it didn’t taste fruity at all (yes I tried!!). As for the colour, it certainly was orange but I didn’t think quite as bright as in the tube.

Once applied the gloss felt very oily which obviously led to lots of sliding and really didn’t last very long at all, although I could still feel it long after the colour had faded. I had one cup of coffee, one kiss at the school gate (from a 4 year old!!) and it had gone. Not what I would expect from my glosses at all. I also noticed that I had a very unattractive orange rim around my lips from where the colour had bled – unusual from a gloss.

This new gloss comes in 9 shades and they all seem to have a “fruity” theme (coconut clear, strawberry glitter, bubble gum pink for example) and priced at only £4.25 I think they are aimed at a more teenage market.

Ease of use: 4/5 – wand applicator
Availability: 4/5 – Boots, Superdrug and online
Quality: 2/5 – The colour simply doesn’t last long enough
Value for money: 3/5 – Not badly priced but I’m sure there’s better out there

I wouldn’t use the gloss again and although the other colours in the range look lovely, certainly nothing out of the ordinary and I’m sure there are other makes in this price bracket that would do a better job.

Sorry Barry M – not a winner for me!
