Famed for their celebrity almost as much as their products, Ruby Hammer and Millie Kendall have a range of products to suit all and every budget.
As Summer drifts away and Autumn heads towards us, it’s easy to ditch the gloss and move onto the more ‘wintry’ lipstick, but hang onto that summery feeling a bit longer and keep on with the gloss, hey, we may have a bit more sunshine yet!
Their regular lipgloss, in it’s twist up click pen is outwardly similar to many others, but this one is packed with shine. Most people can’t get excited about clear lipglosses, but I really can! And I’m not embarrassed to admit that either!
Clear lipgloss is more than just glossing over your natural lip colour, it’s about making your lips feel different, but without the yuckiboo stickiness. These are really rather nice! There’s a scent of mint about, initially it was quite strong, a bit like minty teeth after brushing, but that did die down within a minute or two and you’re then left with a fresh feeling lip, with no stickiness! Not the shiniest gloss out there, but that’s no bad thing. the mirror look isn’t an every day look for most of us, so a good staple clear gloss that doesn’t stick is a great makeup bag purchase.
And as you know, I do like to make my products multipurpose, so this got the eyelid gloss test. A great clear sheen over regular makeup for an editorial shot, fabulous over barely made up eyes for a glossy lid and it works well for holding glitter in place for a photo shoot!
But it doesn’t stop there. Ruby & Millie also have a hotgloss. Like many others, it claims to have a whole host of ingredients to plump up your lips, including Menthol and Peppermint, Chilli and Clove oil and cinnamon extract. What these do is mildly and gently irritate your lips to make them swell up.
Other products have made the claims and failed, but the hot gloss doesn’t. It’s a mild tingle, but with a visible difference. Not huge, no trout-pout, but then who wants that? I decided to take this slightly over my lip line to see what that did, and it made a marked difference. I had a fuller rim to my lips rather than fatter lips, far more natural.

I’ve got one of the hotglosses. I don’t use it that often, perhaps I should get it out again!

-Price: Just over a tenner I believe so way out of my budget.
-Packaging: Like the other R&M lipglosses, this comes in one of those clicker pen thingies that you have to twist at the bottom to dispense the gloss. Very carefully I might add, as I accidentally got loads by twisting too much.
-Colour & Pigmentation: This looks like a clear, bright pinky coral in the tube but it’s very sheer. No colour showed up on my lips at all.
Plumping: Yes, it does plump my lips but the tingly went on for so long, I had to wipe it off. Not impressed by that at all so I wouldn’t reccomend this gloss if you have sensitive lips.
-What would it go with: As it applies virtually clear it will go with anything.
-Texture: Very thick and sticky. Yuck!
-Overall verdict: Huge disappointment. I’m afraid I really don’t like this at all.
