D is for Detox, and…?

When we think of Detox, it’s often in conjunction with clearing out our insides, not necessarily the outside, but with all things beauty in mind, we are brining to you a variety of products to detox your exterior, a slightly less intrusive way of getting you ready for Spring!

Champney’s Skin Resurfacing Mask

Charlotte D 40s

This is my first time testing for MAF, and it’s a nice product to start with. I don’t really like harsh exfoliators, and this is a soft one.  The bits in it are quite small, and cleaned out my skin and wrinkles very well. I would recommend this and will look at the other products in the range.

G-Spa ‘Revive’ Bath Gel

Kate D 40s

Well, this has got to be the most bizarre stuff I have ever used! a powder that turns into a gel, that you then sit/bathe in? Okay…

It has a nice smell, sort of candy floss, and the colour is not dissimilar, but after that, and the initial weirdness of sitting in a bath of goo, and you’ve got a really quite nice experience.  Not sure I would rush to do it again, but I did feel quite sprightly afterwards!

JOICO K-PAK Chelating Shampoo

Jenny D 30s

I am an avid swimmer, so using a dechlorinating shampoo is nothing new to me. However, the Joico shampoo has a much nicer smell.  A very nice salon smell! And, it conditions pretty well, not amazingly, but enough to not need to take 2 bottles to the pool!

Thea Green Algae and Comfrey Detox Powder Mask

Joan H 60s

I haven’t seen a powder mask in a long time. I vaguely remember them when I was Sam’s age, or perhaps younger, but this is a mask that’s far better than those from yesteryear. There is absolutely no smell to this, but the colour is fairly grim! A dirty grey mud colour! But, aside from that, my skin was incredibly soft afterwards. As in, soft like my grandson’s newborn bottom soft!

Richard Ward Spring Detox Kit

Sam Donald late 30s

I was sent this long enough ago to be able to use it and give it a really good test. Okay, so I wasn’t testing it in spring, but having fallen for the Winter Hydration set, I was itching to try this out.

I don’t normally use products, but over Christmas, I did have a bit of a spell of breaking out the hair straightners, meaning I had to use protective products. It did clean my hair really well. And I think that was down to the tub of PreCleanser.  I didn’t know you could pre treat your hair to accept shampoo, but it does the job!

Dr Darren McKeown AHA Active Radiance Cleanser and Dr Darren McKeown Tri-Mineral Dermabrasion Mask

Jane T 30s

For a budget brand, the packaging would lead you to believe you were using a really expensive brand. In fact, I was quite disappointed when I googled and found that these were really very cheap! The results are good. I wouldn’t say they were amazing, but for the price, they did do a good job.

Colour B4 Hair Colour Remover

Kerry M

I am made up that I mentioned on Facebook about my home hair colour disaster.  By pure fluke, Sam spotted my status and offered to let me try her colour B4 hair colour remover. It really does shift colour, dark in my case. I did need to do some heavy duty conditioning for a couple of washes.  I don’t know if that was because of the hair colourant or the remover, but I was happy to not have almost black hair for months.

Caudalie Vinopure Purifying Mask

Rachel 30s

My skin feels cleaner and brighter, my pores aren’t clogged up anymore, and my foundation is sitting still on my face all day! I am so impressed with this, that I’ve been and bought more products from the Vinopure range.

DGJ Organics Hangover Luxury Shampoo and Luxury Conditioner

Sarah P 20s

I love these. My hair is light and clean and bouncy again! That is all!

Institut Esthederm Osmoclean Lightening Buffing Mask and Institut Esthederm Osmoclean Pure Cleansing Gel

Joan W 50s

I use lots of makeup in Wintertime, I suppose most people do.  I never used to give my skin treatments until I tried the Priori for Sam last year. I was less sceptical this time around, and was really pleased with the results. I have a clearer skin tone now, and my skin feels much smoother than it had done before. Wether this would work for someone who regularly treats their skin or not, I don’t know, but if you’re a bit lazy like me, this pair will be great!

Rituals Yogi Secret Sensational Detox Foot Scrub

Joanne M 30s

I was expecting a very herby smell with this, because it is Basil and Mint, but I was a bit disappointed that it didn’t really have a smell at all! It did scrub my feet nicely, and left them feeling really nice for a few days, but I missed the fragrance that you usually get with treatment products.

Naked BodyCare Detox Shampoo and Conditioner

I’ve been using the 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner, rather than separates.  I never do this normally, I like to deep condition my hair (curly) however, I didn’t feel I needed to recondition afterwards.  I did use a leave in conditioner, but that’s a personal thing.  I liked that this gave me a good clean head and scalp.

Ajala Spa Therapeutic Lavender and Eucalyptus Botanical Bath and Shower Oil

Gill K 40s

I’ve never heard of Ajala Spa before, but I shall certainly be looking into the brand some more.  I really enjoyed using this shower oil, it was very invigorating, but without that over sharp smell that eucalyptus can often have. My one concern though was that this is a glass bottle, not ideal in a shower or on the side of the bath. Otherwise, a big thumbs up!

Sranrom Urban Wellness Clear Mind Aromatherapy Mist

Sam Donald late 30s

I’m addicted to Sranrom now, I adore the candles, but keep them to my downstairs rooms, where I am most of the time. I’ve been spraying this on myself when I’m working late at night, and it’s been a real boon to me.  It has a slightly alchoholly smell.  Not gone off alcohol, but crisp and clear.  Like a really sharp gin and bitter lemon!

Phyto Phytoneutre Clarifying Detox Shampoo

Sam Donald late 30s

I don’t use products in my hair, I’m a real drip dry girl, but even so, this really made my hair super clean.  It is shiny anyway, because I have poker straight hair, but this seemed to make the colour brighter. (And yes, I gave it plenty of time to accumulate ’stuff’ post Richard Ward before testing it!)

Fudge Detox Deep Cleanser

Samantha S 30s

An excellent product, I’ve never thought to detox my hair before.  It has a quite pungent sweet smell, but it does give your hair a really thorough clean, and the smell doesn’t linger!  If you like sweet smells, you’ll like it in the shower, I wasn’t keen.

Label M Deep Cleansing Shampoo

Angela J

This has got a lovely smell, very slightly mentholly, but it makes your hair feel really clean.  Definitely shifted product, my hair felt lighter than it has done in a long while!

But D isn’t just about Detoxing, we’ve taken a look round our makeup bags and bathrooms to bring you some other favourite D products!

Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion from Clinique. I’m never very far from a bottle or tube of this.  When my skin needs a drink, or I have a client who needs a little bit more oomph before a makeup application, then Clinique’s infamous DDML is what I always grab.

Smooch cosmetics are a new brand to us at MAF, and they have some really lovely products that last well, give good colour payoff, but don’t bust the budget:

Dolly Daydream Gloss

Deadly Nightshade Lipstick

Dare to Bear Eyeshadow Duo

Dirty Martini Eyeshadow Duo

Deep Beige Nail Colour

Deadly Nightshade Nail colour

And how about some of these?
