Hello - I'm new!!
I'm not quite sure how to work the forum yet but I'm sure you lovely ladies will keep me right:)
I'm actually looking for advice on how to get started with the whole makeup thing including courses etc - can anyone help me with this? I thought possibly about doing a nail technician course as well!!
Any advice would be great:))

Hi HappyGirl!
what a lovely user name!
How far are you into persuing a career in makeup? Have you done any 'jobs' on friends or family? That's always a really good place to start. Get your girlfriends over and have some fun doing their faces. Don't ask them for critique, just get them to 'loan' you their faces as a canvas.
See how you get on, then get them over another night (always a good excuse!), and ask them to give you a 'brief' and see how you get on with it.
If you've got natural raw talent, and know which direction you want to go in, then we'll point you to the best courses for you.
And as for nails, BondGirl is our resident nail tech guru, she'll be along soon I'm sure, and will help you out there!

Hi Happygirl,
Welcome to the forum. You'll quickly get the hang of things, you have to or you won't get a word in edgeways with some of this lot.
Have fun, look forward to chatting to you. |

Hello Sam
Thank you for getting back to me so quickly!!
To be honest I've been doing make-up on friends for years and they all love it - I've always been fascinated even with face painting:)) The reason I didn't pursue this before is that I came from a really rural part of Scotland and didn't have the access to courses - or cash when I was younger. Anyway, now I'm living in London I thought it would be the perfect opportunity and as I'm 35 now I was worried that I may be leaving it a bit late:(
I am really interested in studying makeup for fashion, media & film and theatre plus bridal and possibly prosthetics etc etc etc - really everything:)) I would also really like to study the nails too though!!
Any help with where and what to study would be fantastic:)
Kylie: Thank you very much!! I'm looking forward to chatting with you on here too:)) |

Hello everyone,
I haven't been on here for a while but I'm back with an update on my college course:)
Well it's all going really well and I'm so glad that I took the plunge! It's an all round beauty course and I've found out that I actually like doing a lot of the other treatments as well even although my main passion is makeup:)
It's been really strange for me being back in a classroom situation and it's a mixed ages class so it can be quite hectic at times but it'll all be worth the ups and downs at the end of the day:)
We're doing makeup at the moment and I'm definitely going to look into adding to this with another course - it's fab!!!
Now I'm really hoping that I can maybe do a day or twos work experience with a makeup artist just to see what it's like from the Pros!! I'm willing to carry bags and make the tea:)
So all in all things are busy and fun!!
How are you all doing?
