Testimonials

As a relative newcomer to the Make Up Artist Business, the MAF has been an invaluable source of advice and information sharing as well as providing me with many new client leads. There are plenty of fellow artists on hand to share experiences of all aspects of artistry including techniques, kit, websites and training, and it’s a friendly community which makes networking easy and fun. Membership of this site has been essential to me in terms of encouragement, motivation and enhancing my profile

I have found the MakeupAdviceForum to be an invaluable ‘business tool’. The advertising side brings in many leads and i have received lots of really great help and advice from the forum. I have also made lots of new friends too!

“The Make-Up Advice Forum is a great place to chat to other artists, get advice, learn about products, get useful tips and ask anything you like, (and always get a response!). It’s a really friendly place and one I wouldn’t like to be without. I also get good leads from it, from people looking for a make-up artist and also by swapping leads with other artists on there. Thumbs up all round!!”

North West.

After being away from the industry for nearly 10 I needed a urgent confidence boost to start my business again – and I found it on MAF. The other girls are so supportive and friendly, I sometimes forget that I’ve never even met them!!

Thanks to Sam and the other experts here, I now know how to apply makeup pretty well and can now go on nights out feeling confident that I look great! My husband loves my new-found confidence and so do I.

The forums are like a second home to me and I’ve made some very good friends who will be honest with me. There are no catty comments like you can find on other forums and you can say what you want without being ridiculed, even if people don’t agree with you!

“I have never been one for worrying about makeup so was a little hesitant at joining a Makeup Forum, however, my worries were unfounded. I was instantly welcomed and encouraged to join in. Everyone is so friendly, offered amazing unbiased advice and in The Lounge, many controversial subjects are discussed in a reasoned and adult manner unlike other forums I have frequented.

Despite being a predominantly makeup site, there is a diverse and knowledgeable group of professional people who can offer help and advice on a lot more than just makeup and you can be confident that this advice is from experts, not just ‘wannabes’.

“Thanks for keeping my wife occupied and out of my way while I play computer games. The peace and quiet is amazing!

“I first ‘met’ Sam two years ago when I joined a wedding planning forum asking for bridal makeup advice. After speaking to Sam on that forum, I toddled over to her own site and discovered her forum. As an ‘older’ bride and someone who’s makeup knowledge was stuck in the eighties, this was a godsend. Up until then, my makeup bag consisted of a black eyeliner pencil, mascara and a lippy – now I have a huge makeup case and my bank manager cowers every time I come home from the shops!!!

Thanks to the very friendly and knowledgeable ladies on the forum, I now have the confidence to wear makeup in ways I would never have dreamed of. I know which products suit my skin type, I know which colours suit me and I have the confidence to try new looks which suit my age and personality.

Not only that, the forum has the Lounge, where we can all meet and chat about all sorts of things from problems we’re having with the kids, to where’s a good place for a night out. The members come from all over the country and some have become very good friends, even meeting up from time to time.

MAF, as it’s called by the members, is a warm, friendly, inviting place full of professional, non-judgmental, like-minded people who are always willing to give a helping hand. Come in and see for yourselves.

“I’ve never been particularly into make-up but got to know Sam and decided to check out her make-up forum. I was amazed by how friendly and helpful everyone was. I must have asked some really stupid questions at first (and probably still do!) but no-one made me feel stupid. Everyone was helpful and I have found myself gradually being bitten by the make-up bug. No-one judges you because you don’t go for the most expensive make-up and on the occasions I’ve posted photos of myself everyone was really kind. There are no ‘know-it-all experts’ just make-up artists who are happy to share a wealth of experience.

I love chatting in ‘The Lounge’ about life, the universe and everything and feel like I’m making loads of new friends all the time. I used to be really jealous of people who chatted about sharing make-up tips with their sisters and friends but now I’ve got an online ‘family’ I can do that with.

My husband says I spend far too much time on here but I think secretly he doesn’t mind because he keeps commenting on how nice my make-up looks. I’ve never found such a friendly forum and love being on here.

“After my original make up artist cancelled and I had a horrendous trial with someone else I was feeling very miserable. The only decent looking make up artist I could find so close to the date wanted £400 for hair and make up and trial! I was desperate.

Then I remembered the make up advice forum. I’d seen you give advice to so many people on Confetti and had looked at your site a couple of times but this time I did it properly. I read through all the advice on the message boards and compiled a shopping list. I then posted my shopping list and asked for comments. I received honest, helpful advice that has been priceless.

For the price I would have paid for someone to do my make up I have now had a very indulgent shopping spree (so much fun!), and have got loads of fab products which I can use again and again. My wedding make up is fab and I’m so proud of the fact that I’m doing it myself. But more than that, I feel more feminine and have more pride in my appearance.

However, none of this would be possible without you and the other fantastic artists on the forum, who freely and happily give their time, advice and expertise to people like me…making my dreams come true!

I’ll be sending in a photo of me after the day. All that remains for me to say is a huge thank you, and keep up the good work!

Love Emma x”

“Hi everyone, just thought I would say a big hellooo, I’ve being addicted to this site now since before I was married in June. I log on daily to read all the topics, I’m not a make-up artist yet but it is something I am definitely going to do as I’m a make -up junkie!!! This site has given me the get up and go to do something about a passion of mine, however it is also costing me a fortune because I can t stop buying all your recommendations!!!

I would just like to say how fab all your comments are and I thoroughly enjoy reading them.

Lisa”

“I’ve always found your replies to threads on Confetti really useful but always seemed to struggle searching to find the thread again when I needed it. Having all the info in one place on the make-up advice forum has been invaluable and a lot less hassle!

I’ve always been interested in make-up and always wear make-up – even to pop to the local corner shop (well, you just never know who you might meet on the way!) I have make-up bags and drawers full of make-up at home – where I’ve made mistakes and bought completely the wrong colours for me (especially foundation!) – but your website has given me the confidence to approach the perfectly made-up scary ladies in the white coats in the department stores and to actually ask for their help – instead of running off to the safety of the Rimmel/Max Factor etc aisles in Boots where nobody bothers you!

I’m getting married in 3 weeks time and your website has given me great advice on bridal make-up – in case I have to do it myself. I actually typed up a list of all the recommended products and went internet and department store shopping – and of course had to have a make-over at the Chanel and Clinique counters too (something I would never have done before!)

I had a wedding make-up trial by someone who was recommended by my hairdresser and I wasn’t completely satisfied with it and was delighted when Kate from your website contacted me to tell me she was free. Kate is coming to me tomorrow to do my trial – all the way from Essex to Basingstoke!

As I said, I’ve always liked make-up but your website has actually made me excited about it! It’s great waiting for packages to arrive from eBay – knowing that the seller has been recommended too – and desperate to try everything out!

So, instead of being obsessed with the Confetti website – I now log onto yours everyday and check out the latest posts. …… and when I do go onto Confetti and someone asks a make-up question – I reply, referring them to your website.

Thanks Sam – I love looking at all the make-up artists and hair websites – I’ve got some great ideas from it for my wedding.

“The advice forum has given me the confidence to try experimenting with different shades and putting it in different areas especially my eyes. From hardly ever wearing make up, I’ve gone to wearing it daily and now have some smashbox make up and brushes, that are quite lonely and need adding to!! (then goes looking for other half’s credit card!!)

It’s fabulous and very friendly.

Cheers Sam & thanks

“Hi sam, just to say without you and your make -up tips I would not have had a clue, but now I have. I’m even doing my own make-up for my wedding this Saturday an its all thanks to you, even if you did put a hole in my debit card, lol. You always give honest and helpful answers. All my friends and family now have at least 2 smashbox products in there make-up bag. So thank you Sam, you’re very talented. Keep up the good work.

“I didn’t even really think about make up until I kept seeing you post on Confetti – and when you first set your site up, I remember going to it, and saving it to one of my faves straight away !!

I would luuurve to win the make up, so that I can keep looking good after Kate does my make up on my wedding day!!

I have really really bad skin, and it brought tears to my eyes to look at my make up after she did it and to see no spots!! -It was the first time!!!! – But it was back to usual the next day!!

I do find the tips on your website very useful, and I know that you have helped out soooo many people, and made people that love make up turn into pros – you should be proud of yourself!

I honestly do think that you have made sooo much difference to peoples ‘make up lives’ and spruced up more people than you know!!!

Lots of love and Kisses, Gem”

“’ I couldn’t afford a MUA for my wedding day, and I am so glad I found MAF. Sam’s advice was invaluable! Since then I have become a regular member of MAF, and now couldn’t be without it. All the artists give fantastic advice, and I’m never afraid to ask even the most basic of questions! The forums are fab too…it is such a friendly environment, I always know I’ll find a friendly face here!’

Cassie”

The Make up Advice forum is much more than just a place for make up artists to advertise… its a community of artists that willingly share tips, advice, product reviews and also provide solid friendship, motivation and support to each other
